Dean Windass will still have a shout in Monday's West Yorkshire derby - from the dug-out.

City's top scorer is banned from the televised showdown with Huddersfield Town after clocking up five yellow cards.

But Windass intends to do his bit from the sidelines to inspire his team-mates to another triumph over the neighbours.

"The manager wants me down in the dug-out rather than the TV studio," he said.

"It's really frustrating not to be playing, but at least I will still feel a part of it and soak up the atmosphere from the side of the pitch.

"And being in and around the dressing room, my experience will hopefully help some of the younger lads.

"Games like this are a great opportunity for the younger players because, with it being televised, they can show the world what they can do."

Windass admits his absence is self-inflicted - the booking at Doncaster on Saturday was the only one not to be given for dissent.

"I've paid the price and let the manager and my team-mates down.

"It's important that you put your best players out there and I've been punished.

"It's very disappointing to come from a booking that I shouldn't have got, and the one at the weekend was harsh.

"But it's the four before that which have cost me and I've only got myself to blame."

His suspension means there will be no shoot-out between two of the hottest hitmen in League One.

Huddersfield's Pawel Abbott has scored nine times so far, like Windass, to go with his 27-goal haul last season.

Windass added: "He's done very well and will be the one that our lads will be looking to stop.

"I don't think Abbott has scored in the last three games but he's going to be full of confidence because of the goals he has got already.

"But we know how much it will mean to the supporters to come out of Monday night

with a win. For players, derby games are no different to any other but we know the result will be extra special for the fans. This is the first fixture they look for when the list comes out.

"I know they were chuffed to bits when we did the double last season and we'll be trying our hardest to do the same.

"Win or lose, it doesn't mean that we aren't going to get in the play-offs or win promotion at the end of the season.

"But the supporters want to be able to go into work the next day and rip into the others who support Huddersfield."
