Belper Ladies 1

Ben Rhydding Ladies 0

This was a disappointing start to the League season for Ben Rhydding Ladies. With a reduced squad due to injury and some unavailability, Rhydding were always going to have a challenging time against newly promoted Belper.

The first-half saw domination by the Ilkley side with the majority of the possession and any attacks by the Derbyshire opposition were easily contained by the defence.

However, the superiority in the midfield was not able to be converted into scoring opportunities and at half-time there were no goals.

Early in the second-half a dubious decision saw Belper being awarded a penalty flick which they converted to go ahead and they then gained in confidence.

Rhydding continued to attack but despite the hard work of Melissa Reynard, Kate Richardson and Sarah Male in the midfield, a goal eluded them and they remained 1-0 down.

l On Saturday Ben Rhydding Ladies entertain Nottingham with a 1.30pm start.
