The first round of the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup dominated Saturday's programme and as usual provided a few shocks.

Tyersal were forced into extra-time in their home game with Division One side Lower Hopton before managing to gain a 4-3 victory.

Andy Carlton scored twice in normal time for Tyersal, only for both his efforts to be cancelled out by Mathew Adams and, in the final minute, by Andy Berry.

Carlton completed his hat-trick in extra-time and Gareth Carney scored to give Tyersal a two-goal cushion before Gavin Birmingham netted a third for Hopton.

Wibsey showed little mercy to their local neighbours Westwood, Damian Melvin (2), John Penn (2), Danny Verity (2), James Flower and Chris Hanney all contributing to their 8-2 victory.

Campion also ran in eight goals, Chris Graham (3), Mick Burke (2), Mark Morris (2) and Roland Egege scoring as they beat Halifax League side Elland United 8-3.

Steeton ran out easy 6-0 winners at Denholme United and Dudley Hill Rangers scored all their goals in the second half against Britannia Sports, Andrew Sharkey (2), Jason Kershaw (2) and an own goal contributing to their 5-0 win. Otley Town and Ovenden had to wait until extra-time before winning their home games, Otley edging out Honley 3-1 and Ovenden eventually beating Calder 76 4-2.

Brighouse Town - unbeaten in league games - saw their cup hopes dashed at West Yorkshire Division One side Hartshead, who won 2-1.

Storthes Hall, who won the cup on three successive occasions in the late 1990s, had their dreams of a cup run shattered by Bronte Wanderers, who won 6-3.

In the West Riding County FA Challenge Trophy, Alex Cusak scored a second-half hat-trick as Ventus/Yeadon beat Dynamoes 5-0.

Two second-half goals from Nat Harrison and Paul Ellis were insufficient to stop Dudley Hill Athletic

losing 3-2 at home to Roberttown.

The reserve sides of Campion, Tyersal and Wibsey all made the next round, Dean Louch scoring three as Campion beat Halifax Irish Centre 5-1, Tyersal accounted for Division Two side Barclays 2-0 and Wibsey won 3-2 at Lower Hopton.

Steeton, who lead Division One of the West Riding County Amateur League, were joined at the top by Hall Green United, who beat Kirkburton 2-1.

Littletown completed the double over South Bradford - Paul Moorhouse and Richard Farrell scoring in the second half to give them a 2-0 win and move them up to third - and Salts were again left seeking their first league points after losing 4-0 at Keighley Shamrocks.

Bay Athletic cut Brighouse's lead to one point in the Premier Division after beating Hemsworth Miners Welfare 2-1 in the only top-flight game.
