GLORIOUS sunshine helped attract what organisers believe was record-breaking numbers to the 60th Bramhope Show.

Last Sunday's good weather allowed the anniversary show at the Robert Craven Hall to proceed in fine style, despite a last-minute hitch with the children's entertainer Billy Treewinkle, who couldn't attend.

Guiseley Band and Master of Ceremonies (MC) Mike Garnett ensured that the 'show went on', and were supported by a range of attractions including a beat the goalie game, Otley Lions plate smashing stall, sanctuary donkeys from Eccup, face painting and a coconut shy.

The children's Pet Show once again proved a highlight, with Duke winning the dog section and Splodge, a guinea pig, taking the crown in the Any Other Pet class.

Show Secretary Helen Harland said: "The day went really, really well and the weather was marvellous.

"The only problem we had was with the children's entertainer, who couldn't be there, but in a way that gave the children a chance to explore and try the side-shows and other things they usually don't have time to."

The show committee found the standard of entries across all kinds of classes, including vegetable, flower, home produce, arts and crafts, to be very high - although the numbers were slightly down on last year.

And the committee was particularly impressed by the "extremely high" standard and number of entries for the junior classes.

The customary auction of donated produce was conducted with flair by Mike Garnett and the trophy presentations made by Pat McLaughlin, of La Boutique in Bramhope, to round the day off.

Leeds North West MP Greg Mulholland, accompanied by his baby daughter Isabel, was amongst the many visitors on Sunday, and said he thoroughly enjoyed himself.

Bramhope Show Committee, meanwhile wishes to thank patrons, local businesses, judges, visitors and everyone who helped on the day for their continued support. Mrs Harland said: "This is particularly encouraging at a time when traditional village shows are in decline."
