Those who have tipped East Bierley to win their first SDS Bradford League Divi-sion One title since 1996 will be shifting more uneas-ily in their seats after this weekend's results.

While the other two contenders, Pudsey Congs and Woodlands, both triumphed, Bierley's inability to bowl out lowly Bradford & Bingley means they have slipped to third place.

But things could have been so much worse for the men from South View Road.

They were 68 for seven at Wagon Lane and only a stand of 40 between skipper Rich-ard Gould (49) and Jaffer Nazir (64 not out) and a more damaging unbroken partnership of 72 between the Pak-istani and Craig Thornton (18 not out) enabled Bierley to reach the relatively dizzy heights of 180 for eight.

Nazir hit six fours and three sixes and reached his half-century in 53 balls and 81 minutes.

Richard Nichols (3-14), Lance Shaw (2-47) and Rich-ard McCarthy (2-49) had precipitated Bier-ley's collapse.

Bingley skipper Carl Sharp scored 33 out of 48 before being third out but there was hope for the relegation-threatened club while Haroon Rashid (39) and Mark Beckett (29) were together.

They added 55 for the fourth wicket but once they were parted thanks to the return of Nazir (4-28 off 20 overs) and Greg Lambert (3-39) playing for a point became Bingley's main focus.

With two games left Congs are on 98 points, Woodlands are on 95 and Bierley on 94.

Dinusha Fernando may not be bowling at the moment but his 44 was Idle's top score at home to Woodlands.

Mark Gilliver (38) and Chris Thompson (36) also weighed in as the hosts totalled 163, Safraz Ahmed (4-45) and Chris Brice (4-46) being the main contributors with the ball for Woodlands.

With Fernando absent, Idle's bowling attack was toothless and Woodlands won by seven wickets, Russell Murray making 49, Tim Orrell 48 not out and Paul Winrow 42.

Spen Victoria made a good fist of things in their derby at

Cleckheaton but a four-wicket defeat has confirmed their relegation from the top flight.

Chris Elstub (65) and Matt-hew Taylor (21) put on 52 for Spen's first wicket and 18-year-old Farhan Khan hit a breezy 46 down the order in their 188 for eight.

Faisal Shaikh took four for 51 for the hosts but was not needed with the bat thanks to Andrew Gale (67) and John Wood (49 not out). Elstub completed a fine all-round match by taking four for 55.

Bingley's point was made less worthy, however, as both Morley and Bankfoot won.

Phil Slater (49) top-scored

in Baildon's 170 all out at Scat-chard Lane, Paul Kinder taking three for 31, and Morley used two of their their extra five overs to win by six wickets.

Vivek Mahajan (66 not out) again came up trumps for the hosts, backed by Richard Haikings (31) and Edward Galek (40 not out).

Mushtaq Ahmed (4-66) was the only wicket-taker for Baildon.

Bankfoot's Andy Mar-shall had the most remarkable analysis of the day in the division, taking six for 12 from 10.5 overs as visitors Farsley were dismissed for 87, Greg Colehan (4-37) playing the chief support role well after James Lee had been hit out of the attack by Alex Blakebor-ough (39).

Opener Mal Nicholson hit 23 for Bankfoot out of 31 but they only won by two wickets after Stuart Lemon (4-40) and Craig Hitchenor (3-19) made things tough.

Bingley are now second from bottom with 33 points with Bankfoot six points better off and Morley seven.

Fawad Maqsood's whirlwind 54 off just 29 balls in 47 minutes helped Saltaire defeat Hanging Heaton by five wickets.

Keighley are already Divi-sion Two champions and Brighouse are virtually certain to be promoted with them. Zubair Raje's unbeaten 72 steered Brighouse to a five-wicket victory over Bowling Old Lane.

Undercliffe took the promotion race into the penultimate weekend with a ten-wicket victory at home to Windhill, Craig Hunt (15 fours, five sixes) hitting 114 not out and James Clarke 65 not out.
