City's management team and players applauded the fans last night after nearly 7,500 turned out to cheer them to victory against Chesterfield.

Two late goals from Dean Windass - his eighth of the season - and Marc Bridge-Wilkinson got the Bantams back to winning ways after two defeats in three days against Bournemouth and Blackpool.

Assistant manager Bobby Davison said: "We were chuffed with our supporters.

"We weren't expecting seven-and-a-half thousand here with the rugby being on up the road and the game being on a Friday night. The management and the players want to thank the fans."

Davison said he and manager Colin Todd had urged the players to trust in their ability.

Two stars of last night's impressive victory were Windass and former Manchester United youth player Ben Muirhead.

Davison said: "We always know what Ben has in his locker. It is just about him producing it consistently. He is listening and learning this season. And he is a handful for defences.

"Deano knows the game inside out. He is a model pro - a good trainer. He trains as he plays. He is a credit to himself with his fitness levels.

"Technically he is very, very good.

"We stressed to the players we wanted a high tempo game from start to finish and, from the first whistle, it was exactly what we got. It had to be because Chesterfield came here and worked their socks off to stop us from playing.

"We said to the players - trust in your ability and you will come out on top."
