It was a case of 'After the Lord Mayor's Show' for Keighley at Lawkholme Lane on Saturday as they crashed to only their second defeat of the season to promotion hopefuls Brighouse.

Earlier in the season the fixture would have been earmarked as a promotion decider by many, but Keighley's stunning form throughout the season means they are already champions.

Winning the league a month before the end of the season brings a different kind of pressure and, for once, Keighley were found wanting.

The home side batted first and limped their way to 108-8 off 50 overs. None of the batters made any significant impact on the Brighouse attack with the exception of skipper Steve Reape who put up a defiant rearguard action carrying his bat with a stubborn 47.

In reply, it took Brighouse just over 29 overs to pass the Keighley total securing victory by eight wickets.

Keighley did, however, have something to smile about as they were presented with the champions trophy by the league during the tea interval.

Due to an odd number of teams in the league, Keighley are without a fixture this weekend but, now that their fate is secure, they can sit back and watch the chasing pack fight it out for the remaining promotion spot.

While the first team were getting a rare taste of defeat the Second XI kept up their own push at the top of their table.

Opponents Morely were not allowed to get into their stride with H Shahza picking up the wickets of the first three batsmen. He worked in tandem with J N Robinson throughout the afternoon and picked up 6-66 while Robinson took 4-58.

Morely struggled to 130 and the target within range of the Keighley batsmaen. AM Broadley batted through the innings for 59 not out and was backed up by L Moretti (23) and A Benson (30) as they secured a seven-wicket win.
