There was drama at West Bowling which included a missed penalty and a controversial goal as Bowling, leading 3-0 against 100 per cent Albion Sports, were pipped by the Premier Division champions 4-3.

In front through Damien Melvin (2) and Darren Storey, Bowling's defence was put under tremendous pressure in the second half.

John Ashton pulled a goal back and then Stefen Zoll struck twice - the first goal being heavily disputed by Bowling. But Albion were level at 3-3.

John Worsnop missed a penalty to win the game for Bowling before Albion took the points through a Jason Ryan header.

Bolton Woods got their first points when Andy Howland took advantage of a Chris Rossendale through-ball to grab the only goal of the game after 55 minutes against visitors Pudsey.

Wyke Wanderers won the battle of the youngsters at Crown. A goal down to Mark Eade, Wyke responded with two second- half strikes from Andy Beckwith.

Back in the First Division after a brief interlude in 1A, Victoria Rangers marked their return with a 3-1 win over Westwood. Goals came from Charley White, a Carl Firth penalty and Ray Gartlan.

While Idle couldn't raise a side for the visit to Eccleshill, Ring O' Bells Shipley were 2-1 winners against Queensbridge. They are another side expected to push for promotion this season.

30- yarder and a Des Rouse winner.

Bradford Park Avenue Rangers enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 win over East Ward. Goals came from Adam Jones (2) and Thomas Howard.

And in a ding-dong game at Dudley Hill Rangers, the home side were in front twice through Ian Taylor before Wibsey WMC equalised on both occasions.

An own goal edged Wibsey in front before Hill came back through Jason Kershaw and winner from sub Jamie Lee.

In Division 1A, debutant Nick Walker came on as a second-half substitute to hit the only goal of the game for Oddfellows Athletic in a tight affair with QCs.

Ecceshill United also made the perfect debut in 1A. Ian Horrocks scored a hat-trick in a 4-0 win over White Horse.

Ventus Sports, who missed out on promotion by a whisker last season, were denied three points at Bishop Rovers where Tasif Khan's last-ditch header gave Bishop a 2-2 draw.

Lee Butterfield scored for Hudsons in a

1-1 draw at Trinity Athletic. Hudsons had enough chances to have taken three points.

Former Oakenshaw player Matthew Papworth was on target on his debut for division newcomers George, who beat quarry 5-2.

In Division 1B, a depleted Craven Heifer (fomerly Skylark) were soundly beaten 5-0 by a much stronger Crown Wyke. Paul Gott and Jordan Missin both scored twice.

Brent Netzler, who scored 52 goals last season in Division Two, showed he could be a force in 1B with all four in Saltaire Rangers' 4-3 win over White Eagles.

A late penalty earned Chellow Reserves

a point in a 3-3 draw at Royal Clayton and there was a similar situation at Wibsey WMC Reserves where the home side,

hoping to avenge the first team's defeat, denied Dudley Hill Rangers a double with a late goal in a 3-3 draw.

The opening day of the season saw

plenty of goals in the lower divisions.

In Division 2A, Relay Recruitment opened their season with a 4-0 victory over Druids AFC. They took a three-goal lead into the interval. Druids hit back after the break but were not strong enough.

Bradford Ukrainians enjoyed a 7-0 victory over One in Twelve. Ian Knight (2) and Phil Greenan (2) were among the goals. Bankfoot Lions went down 5-1 at home to Fountain in a game that saw Lions take the lead at half-time through John White.

Greengates Albion beat George & Dragon 6-0 - Paul Kelly grabbing four of them.

Wyke Wanderes Reserves won 1-0 in a close game, James Tucker scoring for Wanderers after the break.

A ten-goal thriller saw Woodman Albion and Old Kings Head share the points with a 5-5 draw in Division 2B. Tyersal beat Beldon Sports 4-0 and Towngate Athletic drew with Woodman Rovers 4-4. Towngate's Nathaniel Harrison and Paul Myers both scored twice.

And Paul Moorehouse completed a hat-rick for Britannia as they also shared the spoils with a 5-5 draw at to School Green, Gary Rowling scoring three for the home side.
