John Cook proudly held aloft the Supplementary Cup after his Bradford Moor side defied the odds to beat Brighouse Sports B.

Brighouse were giving their opponents a 40-point start, although when you are able to field the likes of Steve Foster, Mal Ramsbottom and Fred Middleton this should not have been too difficult a task.

The Bradford Moor players had clearly not read the script as Derek Briggs got them off

to a great start with some excellent leading in a 21-17 win over Andrew Wood, while Barry Durrans had Steve Foster rattled at 8-1 before Foster found the corners.

David Southwell pulled some valuable points back for Brighouse with a 21-7 win, though Moor made up for that result thanks to Mark Durrans (21-14) and Stuart Jessop (21-10).

With the last two blocks remaining, Moor needed to score 22 points to lift the trophy - and they duly obliged, sparking scenes of wild celebration.

In the main competition, Asa Briggs overcame the challenge of Knowles to retain the Haworth Cup at Lister Park.

Knowles must have fancied their chances with a 40-point advantage, though big wins for Malcolm Illes (21-3) and Andy Denton (21-4) boosted Asa's charge.

Eddie Hill and David Bland pulled points back for Knowles but Denton's timely win signalled an end to their hopes.

l Bolton's Kevin Shaw and Gareth Nicholson of Halifax are the latest qualifiers from the Yorkshire Butter-sponsored Pudsey Classic as a numer of top names fell by the wayside.
