Colin Todd today demanded City "show what they are made of" after a double dose of Bank Holiday misery.

Blackpool condemned Todd's side to their second loss in 48 hours yesterday despite playing nearly an hour with only ten men.

Defender Rob Edwards was sent off for two hacks at Ben Muirhead. City dominated for long periods but failed to make their advantage count and were sunk by a late goal from Simon Wiles.

The good start to the season has evaporated with the back-to-back defeats which have increased the significance of Friday's home clash with Chesterfield.

"Now it's a test of character," said Todd. "We're only six games in at the moment but one or two are falling below the standards I'm looking for.

"It's all right when things are going well but now we'll see what we're made of. We've just played two games where we never looked like losing but we have in both.

"It makes the next one even more important now because we've not been getting results."

Steve Schumacher suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury and there are other doubts over Danny Cadamar-teri and Bobby Petta.

But Todd was not making any excuses after Blackpool claimed their first league win of the season as he said: "You can look at the stats and we had maybe 70 or 80 per cent of the play but the result speaks volumes.

"We had a lot of possession but got more frustrated the longer the game went on.

"When you are having that much play, you have to produce. And while we got in telling areas of the pitch we couldn't do that.

"It looked as though we would bounce back from Saturday and I would have been bitterly disappointed if we had come away with 0-0. But we just ran out of ideas and that's not good enough.

"I probably protect the players too much but I think it was right to give them the opportunity to put things right. I thought they went out with the right attitude without really penetrating."

Marc Bridge-Wilkinson was seeing a specialist today about his knee. He might need an operation to trim the cartilage - which could keep the influential midfielder on the sidelines for a month.
