A woman taxi driver has told of her terror as she was robbed at knifepoint by two men.

Lorraine Wasley, 47, feared she would be stabbed in the neck when the robbers struck in Keighley in the early hours.

The weapon was held against her neck as she was ordered out of her cab in Mayfield Road, at 12.05am on Saturday.

The two robbers grabbed her takings and then sped off in her Peugeot Partner Combi taxi.

Mrs Wasley, of Sutton, near Skipton, works for Keighley Taxis in North Street.

Her boss, John Meiehofer, has offered a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the robbers.

She said: "I was very frightened. When I was told to get out of the taxi, the one with the knife, who was in the back, kept it against my neck.

"I thought he was going to stab me. I just didn't know what was going to happen next."

The robbers left her in darkness.

"I didn't know what to do, I was that frightened and started shouting and screaming for help - I even shouted for my mum. I was scared stiff."

Mrs Wasley, a taxi driver for 18 months, telephoned the taxi office and the police and was soon picked up by a colleague.

"I want them caught and punished," she said.

Her ordeal began when she went to a pick-up in Redcliffe Street.

The two men first asked to go to the Holy Family School area in Spring Gardens Lane and then re-directed her and eventually told her to stop in Mayfield Road.

The one on the front passenger seat took money out of his pocket as if to pay for the fare and then the man in the back leaned over and put the knife to her throat.

"I believed it was a knife - it had a serrated edge which I could feel against my skin," said Mrs Wasley.

The robber in the front grabbed her cash box, she was forced out and the taxi taken.

A Keighley police spokesman said the robbery happened at 12.05 on Saturday.

The rear seat passenger grabbed and held the female taxi driver around the neck and she believed he was holding a knife to her throat.

The man in the front demanded she hand over money. They ordered her out of the car and drove off.

The men are described as Asian, both aged between 18 and 25.

One was about 5ft 2ins and wearing a long sleeved white jumper and the other was wearing dark clothes.

Police are appealing for witnesses or information and can be contacted on Keighley (01535) 617059.

The stolen Peugeot Partner Combi taxi is registered YH04 CZB.
