At a time when Avenue players are falling like flies - up to half a dozen first-teamers have been missing with various ailments - one player seems to be indestructible.

Former Leeds United youth player Andy Quinn was today due to play in his 110th consecutive league game - an amazing achievement.

Quinn, the supporters' player of the year last season, began his run on January 21, 2003 - and hasn't missed a league game since.

Now, provided he keeps in manager Gary Brook's good books, he can chase a record held by Avenue legend Kevin Hector.

The famous striker played in 166 consective league games for Avenue between December 15, 1962 and September 6, 1966 and would have probably played in a lot more had he not been transferred to Derby County for £34,000 - a big fee for those days.

Hector's record run was 11 clear of two players who used to hold the record. Jack Scott, a left half, made 155 consecutive appearances for the club between April 6, 1912 and April 6, 1920.

And more recently, centre half Don McCalman equalled that run of 155 between February

27, 1960 and August 26, 1963. A cartilage problem stopped him going on.

Avenue, hoping to bounce back from Tuesday's mauling with a match at Matlock today, have an important home clash against Lincoln United on Monday afternoon (3pm).

But still out of contention are Wayne Benn, Jonathan Holland, Ryan Gray and Tom Agus. Steve Oleksewycz and Dean Calcutt may be in the squad against Lincoln.

Brook said: "We are still struggling on the injury front.

"I know we were poor at North Ferriby in the first half, second best everywhere on the field. I think we were still on the coach. But in the second half we played well and bossed things. Hopefully we will take that into today's game at Matlock and into Monday's home game."

Avenue were losing 5-0 by half-time at North Ferriby but hit back well and the game ended 5-2 with two second-half strikes from Greg Challender.

"It is a strange situation for us because we didn't have injuries during the pre-season. Then they all came at once. These players who are out can't train either so it is a difficult situation for us," added Brook.

"The team played for its pride last Tuesday and in the end did well. But I would love to get the side on the pitch that I want."
