The Mayor of Keighley is hoping to renew links with one of its twin towns after a visit there.

Cllr Tony Wright spent a day in Poix-du-Nord at the end of a two-week holiday and is planning on welcoming a delegation to Keighley.

He planned the visit as the finale to his tour of northern Europe with his sons Steven and Sean.

He said: "I took the opportunity to visit Poix-du-Nord while I was on holiday. It would have been a missed opportunity.

"It was a real pleasant experience."

The Mayor was shown around the town by his French counterpart Robert Lam-bourg, and former textile barons the Decournet family.

They visited the mayor's office, the town hall and the community building, Keighley Hall.

Keighley Hall was built in the 1920s with help from architects and benefactors from Keighley, who helped to rebuild the town after the First World War.

He said: "It was quite interesting stuff. It was a fascinating afternoon. I learnt quite a lot and now think we could probably do more to foster links."

Official twin links between the two towns were formalised nearly 30 years ago. Delegations from the Keighley and District Twin Links Association have visited the town on numerous occasions since.

President Michael Scarborough helped to organise Cllr Wright's visit.

The Mayor added: "I hope to host a delegation to Keighley Town Hall next year. I think the French party was genuinely delighted to see the re-establishment of the town council.

"They hold the twin link close to their hearts. The Keighley coat of arms is prominent in the town. We don't seem to do as much at this end."
