Keighley singer Rashad Khan is recording a CD of self-written songs after teaming up with performers and producers in Leeds.

Rashad is one of the performers at Keighley's Love Music Hate Racism in Victoria Hall on October 29.

He is a regular performer at the Lyrically Justified open-mike night for singers and poets at Leeds' New Conservatory Bar.

He performs Coldplay-style acoustic songs and soft-rock tracks which he hopes will be taken up by other singers and bands.

Security guard and Leeds College of Music student Rashad has already attracted interest from London girl group entitled Serese.

He said: "I'm working on that, I have original material. I have already got rough demos and should finish by the end of the month."

Rashad, 23, who will soon perform on Radio Leeds, is looking for guitarist to work with him on tracks. Contact arkaye@email.com .

n Singer-songwriter Paul Holmes will be among performers at the latest open mike night at the Boltmakers Arms.

All singers are welcome to turn up and play at the East Parade, Keighley, pub next Wednesday in return for a free beer.

The headliner at the monthly session, organised by Mick Thompson, will receive £30.

n Keighley punk rock trio Dead Message will play the 1-in-12 Club, Bradford, along with Munition and Orchid, on September 2.

n Size 5 have added October 29 to their list of autumn gigs, playing 1950s and 1960s covers at Ingrow and Hermit Hole Conservative Club.

n Keighley band Wet Paint have split up after four years following the departure of member Sam Carlisle.

The remaining three members, Luke Parker, Charlie Smallwood and Sean Shackleton, plan to start a new band with other local musicians.

Charlie said the rock-metal-indie band had always planned to fold if any individual member left.

He said: "We wish Sam all the best and would like to say there is no bad feeling from our end.

"Whilst we are obviously upset and would like to have carried on, things don't always go the way you want."

A CD of Wet Paint songs may soon be released, as a follow-up to last year's EP Seriously Though. After building up a following around the Bradford district the band last year supported Skeletal Family and Laika Dog.
