TWO Skipton swimmers have emerged in the top 10 in the country for their age group and event.

They were among four Skipton Swimming Club representatives competing in the National Youth Championships, the pinnacle of the swimming calendar for the Skipton swimmers.

The event was incorporated into the Commonwealth Games trials held at Sheffield.

Alex Belk, Jenna Chatburn, Carolyn Haworth and Hannah Robertshaw were the club's representatives and the highlights of the four day meeting were the performances of Robertshaw and Haworth.

Both swimmers got through to the finals in the 100 and 200 metres backstroke events, with Robertshaw finishing sixth in the 200m and ninth in the 100m. Carolyn finished eighth in the 200m and tenth in the 100m.

They both recorded personal best times in the heats and maintained good times in the finals.

Robertshaw also swam in the 200m and 400m individual medley events.

Jenna Chatburn produced a very competitive heat swim with a personal best time, knocking almost two seconds off her previous time.

Making the final, she committed to her first 50 metres and swam strongly to improve her placing from last year, finishing seventh.

Alex Belk was the busiest swimmer, competing in a total of seven events. A true all-rounder for Skipton, he produced a mixed set of results.

His best performances were in the 100 metres butterfly and 200 metres breaststroke, producing personal best times.

His highest place finish was in the 100 metres breaststroke, where he narrowly missed making the final, coming in in 11th place.

Tierney Maude was the first swimmer to represent Skipton at the Youth Commonwealth Trials. Swimming 50 metres freestyle she was well placed at the 25 metre mark, just finishing slightly below her personal best time. She was placed 19th in her youth category.

Tom Lonsdale produced a highly competitive swim in a personal best time of 24.72 seconds, finishing 16th overall.
