July is a busy month for OperatorSix -- who last night opened Paul Weller's sell-out Bradford gig and on July 26 support Ocean Colour Scene in Keighley.

And the four-piece will also appear for the first time at Guidefest, Keighley's rock festival, which runs on August 13 and 14.

Three-quarters of OperatorSix met at Keighley College and they got their big break when they supported Ocean Colour Scene on their homecoming gig in Birmingham last December.

That in turn came about after the band supported Ocean Colour Scene frontman Simon Fowler at Keighley's New Variety Club last autumn.

"His fans seemed to like us and he took us on board," says OperatorSix drummer Ian Atkinson. "We opened their homecoming concert in Birmingham which was fantastic -- it was the biggest gig we'd done.

"Simon invited us to Ocean Colour Scene's spring UK and Ireland tour but in the end we didn't do it, it was something to do with the Irish promoters wanting another band. But we're doing a couple of dates with them this month, which will be great."

Ian hopes the Paul Weller gig will raise their profile.

"Our singer, Adam, has always been a big fan of Paul Weller and I got into him through my dad," says Ian.

"We just sent him a demo and asked if, as a local band, we could open for him in Bradford. He liked the demo and next thing we knew we were on board. The gig sold out in hours, there'll be an amazing atmosphere."

Earlier this year OperatorSix recorded an EP, Quadnique, and now the lads have just finished their debut album, Alibi.

OperatorSix will play Keighley's New Variety Club on August 11. They support Paul Weller tonight in Telford and Ocean Colour Scene in Holmfirth on July 27. They plan to tour Scotland, Ireland and England with Glasgow band Shrinking Violet, which plays Keighley on August 11.

Tickets for Ocean Colour Scene in Keighley are on sale at the Copy Shop in High Street, Keighley.

n Sean Webster spent several years playing blues and rock covers around the country before finally grown frustrated.

The young guitar vocalist began writing his own songs -- and swiftly rose to fame on the national blues circuit.

Last year's debut album with his self-titled band was hailed as a "real gem" by leading magazine Blues Matters!.

He now has a second album out -- and appears in Keighley next Friday to promote it while raising money for charity.

The Sean Webster Band is said to combine a sharp sense of songwriting with a strong feel for contemporary blues rock.

Sean headlines next Friday's Victoria Hall concert, with support from local bands Blues Breakdown and Rider, beginning at 7.30pm.

Tickets £7 from Musician's Centre at Keighley railway station, Keighley Information Centre in the town hall, or by phoning 01535 600310.

n Skeletal Family has secured distribution deals for its latest album in Europe and the USA.

Trotwood, guitarist with the Keighley Goth-rock band, said the album was selling well. Live dates are being planned for later this year.

n The Mission will play on September 20 at Victoria Hall, Keighley, not July 20 as stated in the Keighley News recently. Tickets from Copy Shop in High Street.

n Aftermath (pictured above) takes boozed, bruised and tattooed heavy-metal to CJs Bar, Keighley, on July 29. The Keighley band will be joined at the Low Mill Lane pub by Brand New Analogues.
