A four-man Keighley Golf Club team overcame a poor start to finish second out of 18 teams in the Yorkshire PGA Overseas Pro-Am tournament in Portugal last week.

The team of Russell Newton, Malcolm Mawson, Cameron Dawson and club professional Mike Bradley started with a disappointing three-over-par score on the first day of the event, at San Lorenzo on the Algarve.

But they came second on the second day with a much better 12-under-par score, second again on the third day with nine under and fourth on the final day with five under.

Mike saidf: "We played well as a team to come runners-up for the second successive year, and could have won if we had done better on the opening day."

Riddlesden Golf Club pair Michael Bland and Stephen Barrett finished seventh out of 20 in the national finals of the Wilson Fourball tournament, played in appalling weather conditions in Fuengirola, Spain.

Bland and Barrett had earlier beaten clubmates Phil Toon and Colin Bottomley in the regional final, played at Riddlesden, to qualify for the national event.
