Business bosses in Bradford are determined to take legal action against two company directors who allegedly ran up a string of debts over an incinerator scheme in the city.

George Carpenter and Inge Gram - directors of Kingsclear Technologies & Associated Companies - were planning to build a £5 million BSE incinerator in Thornton.

But the controversial scheme was rejected by Bradford Council.

In October, the Telegraph & Argus revealed that the couple had been thrown out of a Shipley guest house after running up an accommodation bill of £5,000. Guest house owners Billy and Anne Hainsworth say the bill remains unpaid.

Mr Carpenter and Miss Gram are also accused of leaving debts of thousands of pounds to accountants, solicitors and architects. Philip Hawdon, a partner in Sowerby Bridge architects Hawdon Russell, said: "He owes me more than £5,000 and he promised on a number of occasions to settle our accounts."

They were also thrown out of an office they were using in a Shipley shop after allegedly failing to pay the rent and the cost of fax and copying services - amounting to about £600.

The manager of the print shop, who asked not to be named, said: "We certainly intend to take legal action against him if we can find him."

And Halifax solicitors Wilkinson, Woodward and Ludlam - who acted for Kingsclear - are also understood to be waiting for payment for their work. A spokesman would only say: "I have no current instructions from Mr Carpenter and I am not in a position to divulge anything about his case."

Mr Carpenter's accountants also say they are owed money for work done. He and Miss Gram immediately declared themselves homeless after leaving the Southgate House guest house in Bradford Road. Mr and Mrs Hainsworth say they will take legal action to try to recoup the money they are owed - if they can find the couple. Mrs Hainsworth said: "We still want the money they owe us."

Mr Carpenter and Miss Inge claimed the money for the scheme was coming from a German company and other sources.

Attempts by the T&A in the past three months to contact them have been unsuccessful.

It is understood they are still living in Council accommodation in Bradford. A Council spokesman said it was "inappropriate" to discuss individual cases.

If you know where Mr Carpenter is, contact the T&A on (44) 0 1274 729511, ext 255.
