Greater efficiency and quicker distribution is expected by a Bradford menswear firm - after a move to purpose-built headquarters.

Staff at Moorcroft Menswear, which designs and distributes clothing to shops across the country, started work at their Silsden site this week, after moving 12 miles across the district.

The firm had worked from three warehouses in Bradford, Pudsey and Oldham, with headquarters in Hillam Road where the company had been based for 13 years.

Managing director Michael Stanley said: "We had just grown too big for our old building.

"It took some time to find the right site and develop it, but with a £1 million investment it's imperative that every aspect is right.

"It's a major progression for a company of our size and we're delighted with the final results - they're well worth waiting for."

The company had announced their move two years ago, but plans were delayed by problems with sewer provision at the site in Belton Road.

The new building includes a warehouse and processing line, covering 44,000 square feet.

In addition to spacious new offices, a canteen has been created for workers.

Mr Stanley said: "We'll improve our efficiency as all our warehousing will now be on one site and our Moorcroft Logistics delivery service will be more effective operating from one rather than three pick-up points.

"I believe everyone will benefit from working in new offices in a pleasant location."

The firm employs 23 people - including three workers recruited in the last three months from the Silsden area.

The company, which was founded in 1981, designs its own lines of men's clothing.

Much of the manufacturing takes place in Portugal where work is carried out by a factory of 95 employees dedicated solely to producing Moorcroft clothes.

Its range of suits, jackets, coats and trousers are bought by independent menswear specialists and department stores within the Association of Independent Stores group.
