Talented winger Peter Beagrie believes Bradford City must get back to winning ways as soon as possible if they want to revive their flagging play-off hopes.

A disappointing goalless draw with Oxford United at Valley Parade means the Bantams have picked up just one point from their last three games.

City had countless chances to seal victory against an intimidating Oxford side, and the draw leaves Paul Jewell's side in 12th position in the First Division table.

Beagrie said: "Sat in the dressing room after the game, we felt like we had lost. We had the chances to win and with the result coming so soon after the way we lost at Wolves, it has left the lads feeling flat.

"We know that if we don't get a win sooner rather than later, then the play-offs will be out of the question. The disappointing thing is we know we are better than the vast majority of sides in this division.

"And if we can only get that slice of luck, then we could get back up there."

Jewell now faces the task of lifting his players before tomorrow night's game with struggling Port Vale at Valley Parade.

John Rudge's side pulled off a surprise 1-0 win at QPR on Saturday to ease their relegation fears, and Beagrie knows it will be a tough game.

"From a player's point of view, I would much rather play than train, and it gives us a chance to get a victory.

"Playing Port Vale makes it even more important that we come away with a good result."

Beagrie came the closest to breaking the deadlock against Oxford after a cleverly worked free kick saw his 20-yard shot crash against the inside of the post.

He said: "In the first half we didn't really stick to our game plan, and the pitch made it difficult as it does not help our style. But in the second half we changed and played the ball around a lot more.

"And but for a coat of paint and a couple of clearances off the line, we would have won it.

"A lot of onus has been put on me by the fans to score. Now I am thinking to myself that it has been that long since I did score that I may as well take as many shots as I can.

"Unfortunately, it didn't go in. It was lined up for Nigel Pepper to have a shot from that position, but as we were setting up I noticed their line-up, so I thought it was worth trying a shot.

"I thought it was in. Mind, I felt the same at Man City in the cup when I hit the post.

"It is looking like I will probably have to wait until next season and then get four or five on the trot."

Jamie Lawrence got a bad knock in the game which required nine stitches and he will definitely miss tomorrow night's crucial game against Port Vale .
