Bus bosses have launched an investigation amid reports a boy rode alongside the driver on a Bradford bus which narrowly avoided a crash.

Mother Haley Binns, 22, said she was shocked to see the boy when she boarded the 845 Bradford Traveller hopper-bus in Wibsey with her husband Martin and two children for a shopping trip.

But she said her disbelief turned to anger when the driver slammed on the brakes to avoid a taxi - sending her two-year-old daughter Morgan crashing into the seat in front.

Mrs Binns, of Blackshaw Drive, Buttershaw, said: "The driver jammed his brakes by the Alhambra and Morgan hit the seat in front.

"She was screaming. The driver asked if anyone was hurt and I told him twice that someone was but I understand he didn't report it."

Morgan, who was sitting on her father's knee, suffered bruising to her nose.

No one else was hurt but, according to the person leading the inquiry, the driver, who was in his mid-thirties, told his bosses he was alone in the cab.

Mrs Binns said a boy aged around seven was standing between the driver and the drivers' window throughout the journey.

Mrs Binns, a student at Bradford and Ilkley College, said: "We thought at first it must be a 'take your child to work' day. I've been told that by complaining I'm putting a man's livelihood at risk but there were around ten other people on that bus and it could've been a lot worse."

Mrs Binns is now hoping other people aboard the bus will come forward to back up her claims.

Bradford Traveller accident investigator John Marshall said the matter was being looked in to.

He added the company wanted to hear from other passengers who were travelling on the bus to Bradford at around 2.30pm on Saturday, January 24.
