Neighbours on a Bradford street fear they are not alone after they spotted strange objects in the night sky.

The residents, who all live in Lister Avenue, feared they were having a close encounter of the third kind after they saw the two strange white lights.

And a Bradford UFO group has been inundated with calls from around the district from people who have seen the same thing.

Resident Maureen Elstub said she had never seen anything like it.

"I'm not a great believer in UFOs or anything but I just couldn't work out what it was," she said.

"I'd taken my grandaughter Rebecca swimming at the Richard Dunn Centre and we saw these two bright white objects. They were moving too slowly to be planes and there was no noise or flashing lights on them.

"When I got back to the street I could see some of my neighbours stood on the doorstep talking about it and others staring out of their windows.

"These oval shapes were right next to each other and they were nothing likeplanes that I've seen flying over here before.

"My grandaughter said she thought they were flying saucers and next time we looked up they had gone."

The Bradford UFO Research Group appealed in the Telegraph & Argus for people to come forward who had seen the objects on Monday February 2 and more than 20 people contacted them in one day.

Elizabeth Simpson, who also lives in Lister Avenue, said: "I first noticed the shapes about 5.45pm when my neighbour came knocking on my door. "She thought she was seeing things but then I looked out of the window and saw two oval objects.

"Normally you would think of planes or lasers but they didn't look anything like them. It was just very strange and it's become a real talking point."

Russ Kellett, an investigator at the Bradford UFO Research Group, said the sightings tied in with similar things seen in Leeds.

"The response has been fantastic. People have been contacting me from Huddersfield, Halifax, Wyke, and Bolton Woods that have seen these two white saucer shapes," he said.

"There were also a number of similar incidents in Leeds on the same night. One man said people on their way home in the city centre were just staring up at the sky.

"It seems very strange that so many people in the Bradford area have described exactly the same things. We have sent witness reports out to these people and then we will look at all the evidence."
