There may be only five second round ties tomorrow in the Yorkshire Cup, but the pairing of Cleckheaton and Bradford and Bingley sums up what the competition is all about.

In mid-table two divisions below the Bees, Cleckheaton, who are at full-strength, have been looking forward to the clash for weeks.

Bradford and Bingley are still favourites to reach the quarter-finals, but their lack of away league success, plus the absence of Jeremy Marr, Ben Greaves (injured) and Andy Murphy (unavailable) means the home side are not without hope.

On the credit side Bradford and Bingley have prop Tom Garnett and lock Mark Ramsbottom back after injury to boost the pack.

The Moorend hosts have ex-Bees back row forward Shaun Bainbridge and Kiwi prop Brian Guilford returning, having rested injuries, and the first 30 minutes should be very telling.

Memories of Northumberland's fightback earlier in the season should ensure there is no complacency in the Yorkshire camp for their Tetley's Bitter County Championship quarter-final at Tynedale.

Group winners Yorkshire played them at Otley and were 20-0 ahead early in the second half, but runners-up Northumberland hit back to lose by only 25-15.

Yorkshire debutant Dave Lister should benefit from having Wharfedale clubmate John Lawn throwing in at the line-out.

"We felt that we wanted a strong ball-winning presence at No 2 in the line-out, and Lister has been doing really well this season at Wharfedale," says chairman of selectors Russ Holmes.

Among the opposition is a player at the other end of the representative spectrum - Northumberland second row Kevin Westgarth.

The veteran forward will be in action against four of his Doncaster colleagues - full back Jon Ellis, winger Chris Conway, prop Clive Yemm and flanker and skipper Richard Senior.

Keighley will be bidding to succeed where the Cougars failed - defeating Wigan.

The visitors, who rest full back Carl Smith and prop John Duffy for the club match, have Chris Weatherill missing because of a family bereavement, and have Chris Barker injured (knee).

Jimmy Lyons adds to his versatility by turning out in a third position for Baildon's home game against Wetherby.

Normally a centre, he played at scrum half last week against York RI, and this time is a flanker.

"It will give him another insight into scrum half play," said Baildon's coach Malcolm Lightowler. James Dawson returns in the no 9 shirt.
