THREE raiders left empty handed after attacking a security guard at Horsforth.

The men, all wearing balaclavas, and two of them carrying baseball bats, attacked the 61 year-old on the car park at the rear of Morrison's supermarket, Town Street, Horsforth, at 5.15pm on Saturday.

They got away with an empty cash box but the security guard suffered two broken ribs and had an unknown substance sprayed in his face.

The men made their get-away in a stolen Saab 900 car which was later discovered in another area of Horsforth.

Detective Inspector Steve O'Callaghan said: "The guard unfortunately suffered two broken ribs in the attack but the fact that he was wearing spectacles saved his eyes from the spray."

All three men are white and about 5ft 11ins tall. All three were wearing balaclavas.

This is the second time a security van at the store has been attacked in the last two months. In December thieves got away with some cash.

Weetwood police are investigating this robbery and anyone who can assist should contact them on 0113-2413459.
