BNFL National Cup 3rd round: Keighley Albion 0

Beverley 36

ALBION'S cup run ended at the hands of Conference premier leaguers Beverley who gave a master-class in fast, flowing rugby and superb support play. Said coach Gary Moorby: "It's obviously disappointing for us but hopefully we can learn from it.

"You cannot make mistakes against good sides and get away with it. We now know what the standard is like at the top end of the Conference league."

There was little to choose between the sides in the opening exchanges with Albion having their share of possession but failing to capitalise on chances. Their man of the match Wayne McComb opened the first gap, gaining 40 yards with a jinking run before being hauled down.

From a dropped pass Beverely countered and cross-ed for a converted try. Five minutes later and the the visiros intercepted a Bobby Brown pass to score under the posts. A neat move from a scrum saw a try for Gary Chatfield and the ex Hull KR scrum half soon added another try.

Albion worked hard to get back in the second half but their errors were punished. Another interception try came off a stray Paul Moses pass and Beverley rattled up three more touchdowns to win the game with ease.

Moses, McComb, dean Brooks and Mick reddiough all went close but Beverley's defence was too well drilled to be breached.

Albion missed out on a fourth round trip just down to the road to Bradford. Bever-ley's reward is another away day on March 7 against fellow premier outfit Dudley Hill.

Silsden Park Rangers 12

Emley Moor 45

Pennine's division four title slipped from Rangers' grasp as they crashed at home to rivals Emley. Only in the last 20 minutes did they lose touch with the visitors.

The locals started well enough, drawing first blood when hooker Pat Illingworth dived over fromn close range. Dave Arnold's kick and a penalty soon after installed them into a eight points' lead.

Captain and man of the match Tony Williams, on his return from injury, led his men well and Rangers didn't really deserve to trail 8-10 at halftime. They looked equipped to go on and win the game and Illingworth restored their lead with a try soon after the restart.

Everything seemd to be going to plan. Dave Arnold and Neil Jordan were both outstanding in attack and Dave Webster topped the tackle count as usual.

But gradually Emley stamp-ed their authority on the match and ran away with a victory that could be vital to their title ambitions.

Rangers switch their attention tomorrow to the Keighley cup where they travel to local rivals Keighley Celtic.

Huddersfield YMCA 12

Keighley Albion A 18

There's no stopping Albion - or so it seems. They started as underdogs in the top of the table clash but are now favourites to take the division five title at the first attempt.

Both defences restricted chances in the first half. YMCA did take advantage with a penalty and a converted try but by the break Albion had pulled back to 8-6. Roger Simpson, returning after a long absence, proved the ace in the pack, powering his way over for a try to start the fightback. Danny Bowness added the goal.

Simpson was again the spark for a fired up Albion on the restart. He drew the full-back and slipped the ball to Sean Crossley to finish off a 60 yards movement. John Williams goaled and there was more from him as he followed up his own grubber kick to touch down - and again add the kick.

For the final half-hour Albion were pinned in their own half. But their defence stood firm, superbly led by Nigel Anderson, John Norm-anton and Gary Boocock. YMCA did manage a late consolation try but there was no denying an outstanding effort by an Albion side tow games away from clinching the title.
