Tockwith 1

Pool 2

POOL continued their climb up the First Division with an away win at Tockwith that represented their most workmanlike performance of the season so far.

On the big, windswept pitch, Pool pressed hard in the first-half. Carl Wilson caused much grief amongst the home defence and was unlucky not to score.

However, his foray down the right just before half-time produced a perfect cross for Reddington to head home forcefully and pull the teams level.

A goalkeeping mistake had earlier given Tockwith an undeserved lead.

In the second-half Pool had more to do against the wind but their back four held firm, with Ingle winning all 50-50s and Evans giving good support from left-back.

Reddington continued to chase hard up front and was brought down by the home 'keeper to win a penalty which he then converted to put Pool ahead.

They could have added to their total, but several chances were luckily kept out. Despite a strong defensive performance Match Point was shared by Pool's strikers, Wilson and Reddington.

St John Fisher Res 2

On the back of last week's very convincing 6-0 victory, Pool entered this league game full of confidence.

The home team found it difficult to settle in the opening stages due to the wind, but found themselves 1-0 against the run of play when the powerful Singleton flicked on from a throw-in leaving the Fisher 'keeper clutching at air.

Fisher's replied instantly when a dubious goal-bound shot was fumbled by the normally reliable Winterburn and crept across the line, and took the lead with another sloppy effort.

This spurred the home side into action with the back four of Vasey, Payne, Evans and Firth containing the rampant Fisher's forwards with ease.

After an extremely stern half-time talk by skipper Winterburn Pool battled in the opening stages of the second- half with the effervescent Howden and Dickinson causing havoc on the wings and central midfielders Taylor and Field making several crucial tackles.

Taylor then won the ball well on the edge of the opposition's penalty area, turned elegantly Cruyff style and drilled an unstoppable drive under the striken 'keeper.

Graham added to this fantastic strike with a goal of equal quality to put Pool 3-2 up.

As the St John Fisher players pushed forward for an equaliser, Field won the ball on the half-way line, bundled two of his own players out of his path, and finished well to put the result beyond any doubt.

This second-half performance showed much to grit and determination rather than pretty football and the Match Point was shared by midfielder Taylor and right-back Firth, who now starts a five-match ban.

Pool 'A' 2

Tockwith 2

The first-half started with a strong wind blowing against Pool and much of the play was created by Tockwith, which was expected.

Pool defended well and held out until the 48 minutes when a good cross resulted in a simple tap in and Pool were unlucky to finish the first-half 0-1 down.

In the second-half Pool made the most of the wind and were soon on top. Pool's first goal came from a good corner which Murphy headed down and Webster finished off with a back heel.

Pool piled on the pressure and Tweedie finished well from a good Carter cross. Pool were well on top until Tockwith piled men forward which resulted in a corner which they finished in the 92nd minute. Pool were unlucky to share the points. Match Point went to Tweedie and Carter.
