Guiseley Reserves 6 Atherton LR 0

Another convincing victory kept Guiseley Reserves on target in their quest to lift the Bolton Alliance Combination League championship as they move towards their head to head with Chorley for the title.

This game is set for Nethermoor on Saturday, March 28, but before then Guiseley have to continue to do the business against Bamber Bridge on Tuesday, March 3; at home to Southport on Saturday, March 7; and at home to Halifax Town on Tuesday, March 10.

The high riding Reserves are also in two cup semi-finals on dates yet to be set.

They will play Lancaster City at Chorley in the League Cup after their second round success at Altrincham and also have a semi-final to look forward to in the Wharfedale FA Challenge Cup.

On Saturday Colin Hunter returned to the club after his month's loan period at Harrogate and he opened the scoring although it was evident that he is not yet back to full fitness. Lee Poole and Mick Morrell each picked up two goals and the other came from David Hunter on his debut.

Man-of-the-Match was Matt Flanagan playing in a new role in the centre of defence.

On the down side Craig Bowers sustained a serious ankle injury. He was later found to have broken his ankle in three places and suffered ligament damage. He will now miss out on the action after making his first team debut as a substitute lat Hyde last week.

With Nigel Muttrick moving into the first team to cover for the suspended Steve Dickinson manager Brendan Hudson took the opportunity to bring on new 'keeper Lee Darnborough for the last 20 minutes of the game.

The Leeds University student from Ashton spent two years as a schoolboy at Lilleshall and was then signed by Joe Royle for Oldham where he spent three years on the books.

This was Guiseley Reserves' 14th match without defeat and in that run they have scored 74 goals and conceded 14.

In all the Reserves have scored 114 goals and conceded 29. Leading scorers are Richard Dyson 20, Craig Bowers 16, Julian Wilkes 11, Michael Jordan and Lee Poole 10, Mick Morrell 9.
