THE Liberal Democrats' survey of traffic in Skipton has much to commend it. Remember the last such exercise, carried out by professional consultants? Very little came out of it, save a pedestrian crossing on Gargrave Road.
Now 500 local people have identified the problems and the Liberal Democrats have put forward some solutions which merit serious consideration. Remedies, such as a blanket 20mph speed limit, wider pavements and a one-way system, have their critics but are better than the previous do nothing policies. Mike Doyle, who co-ordinated the exercise has done a fine job. Our only criticism is that it does not back a residents only parking scheme. Let us hope Coun Doyle and his colleagues can now drive their suggestions forward.
