Police in Keighley want to build on the success of their club-watch scheme by extending it to pubs.

Club-watch has been such a great success since its launch in December that police would like to extend the service to pubs in the town centre.

Club-watch was created in a bid to clamp down on troublemakers by banning them from all club venues in the town. If a person is barred from one club he or she is automatically barred from all clubs in the town centre, and will not be able to buy a drink after 11pm.

Inspector Richard Ogilvie, of Keighley Police, says: "Club-watch was introduced to stem anti-social behaviour and to make the centre of Keighley a safer place to be. What we hope to do in the near future is to generate interest with pub licensees in the town centre.

"There isn't a terrific problem in Keighley, but we want to send out a strong message that neither club owners nor the police will tolerate any anti-social or violent behaviour."

All three night clubs in town - Oscars, Club 101 and the Rat Trap - have joined the scheme. Regular meetings between police officers and licensees form the basis of the watch.

A pub-watch recently introduced by police in Ilkley would offer guidance for the launch of a Keighley scheme.

Building on the methods introduced by Club-watch, pol-ice suggest licensees use a 'list of shame' to identify individuals who have caused trouble.
