With just one qualifiying round remaining Dougie Lampkin is firmly on course to take the FIM world arena trials title. He scored a brilliant win in Vienna on Friday when most dangerous rival Marc Colomer slumped to fifth - copying Lampkin's off-day a week earlier.

While Colomer was having a wretched night, the Silsden star and fellow Brit Steve Colley were storming ahead. Isle of Man-based Colley (GasGas) took the qualifier from Lampkin (Beta), who reversed the position in the night's final. Lampkin now leads the Spaniard by 15 points in the championship standings and now has just to complete the final round in Madrid on March 8 to retain his world crown.

There was little rest for the Silsden contingent as Lampkin and his father Martin drove straight to France - and 90k from Lyon - where again the local hero was on top form.

Despite the Austrian experience, the long drive there and the prospect of doing two arena trials in quick succession, Lampkin won both afternoon and evening events in the French Open. Colley made it a British one-two on both occasions.

Cullingworth's Keith Greenwood proved Triumph-ant to win the Yorkshire Classic MC trial at Glusburn.

He rode his 30 year old machine to an unpenalised win in the twin-cylinder class, ahead of Haworth's Paul Howarth (Triumph). Keighley's Jack Smith (Matchless) came second in the rigid frame class. Over 60 competitors brought out their old British bikes on a 10-section, five-lap course.

There was a recond entry of 132 riders at Craven DMC's West Yorkshire group trial at Cawder Hall outside Skipton. Ben Hemingway (Beta) emerged winner ahead of James Lampkin (Beta) in the hard course-expert category. Other class winners were: inters A.Drachenberg (Beta); novices C.Carter (Montesa); youth class A S.Ludgate (Montesa); clubmen R.Sharp (GasGas); youth class A T.Lancaster (Montesa); youth class B B.Taylor (Beta).

Class winners in Bradford DMC's beginners' trial at Silsden: hard course-adults R.Clarkson (Aprilia); youth class A M.Duxbury (GasGas); youth class B (M.Langford (GasGas); easy course-adults S.Taylor (GasGas); over 40s M.Hargreaves (Yamaha); youth class A M.Longbottom (Beta); youth class B C.Swire (GasGas); youth class C C.Kitson (Fantic).
