Organisers of the Correena Done Appeal wish to thank Keighley people for their huge efforts to help save Correena's life.

Julie Melvin, Elizabeth Taylor, Marie Rowley, Debbie Roberts and Jackie Turton - organisers of the appeal - have asked us to thank all their families, friends and supporters for their hard work over the last few weeks. They say without it they would never have managed to get Keighley cancer-sufferer Correena Done and her family to a medical centre in Mexico.

Speaking for all of them, Debbie says: "We just really want to thank everybody for their support, especially all the local businesses which donated so many raffle prizes. But it's not over yet because Correena will need further treatment which is very expensive. We've got to keep going."

Correena, 36, is currently receiving treatment at the private clinic in Tijuana. Keighley people raised more than £11,000 to send her there. Correena will return from her month's stay in Mexico at the beginning of March, when she will continue receiving treatment specially prepared for her by the centre.

The organisers wish to thank particularly John Haigh, who donated a gold pocket watch for auction at Robbo's pub for £135.

Another 'thank you' goes out to Keighley's Lloyds Bank for all the help in setting up the appeal fund account.

Thanks go to Florence Greenwood and Harry for raising £120 at a Valentine's Dance earlier this month, and Florence's daughter Sheila for selling raffle tickets.

Many thanks go to Janette Wilcock, of Thomas Cook's Keighley branch for finding great flight prices.

More than £100 was raised from a competition to guess the weight and sex of Jayne Dentith's baby. The baby is a boy and weighs 8lbs 2oz. The winning guess came from May Allan who will receive a £10 gift voucher.

The Brown Cow pub, in Leeds Street, Keighley, collected £30 in its collection box for Correena. And a Keighley shop - Ethelaustin - in Low Street, raised £35 from a collection.

Winners of two local raffle draws have yet to claim their prizes. The winning raffle ticket drawn to win a Nintendo 64 donated by Correena's brother, Chris Thornton, is 56 blue. The second raffle ticket drawn on the same day to win a gold bracelet was 391 pink. If anyone has a winning ticket, contact Julie Melvin on 01535 214724 to claim the prize.

The organisers would also like to put out an appeal to the mother of Terry Tate, who lives in Keighley. Terry, now living in Los Angeles, invited Correena and her family to stay at his Los Angeles home after seeing her story in the Keighley News, but his telephone number has recently changed. Organiser Julie Melvin would like to appeal to Terry's mother to contact her with Terry's new telephone number, so Correena can visit him.

More charity events will be held over the next few weeks.
