Ben Rhydding 4 TIMPERLEY 1

SATURDAY witnessed a return to winning ways for the Ben Rhydding first team and this win condemned their visitors to relegation.

The return to the team of several key players was reflected in the confidence and desire on display. Indeed the game was only minutes old when Bevan Gibbs - revelling in his new role at centre-forward - began and finished the move that brought the opening goal.

The finish from a matter of yards was a mere formality thanks to the work of James Laxton on the right.

In recent weeks it has been the opposition who have scored early and Ben Rhydding seemed to be as shocked as their opponents by this early goal.

They quickly conceded an equaliser in a scrappy game but they gradually took control thanks to a much improved performance from Cutter.

It was he who scored the second goal from a well-worked short corner and Cutter seemed destined to add to his tally before half-time but Moody Mazhar nipped in to steal the glory with the faintest of touches.

Early in the second-half Warwick Smither was forced to make several excellent saves to deny a revitalised Timperley forward line.

This was despite the presence of Gibbs who had reverted to the back following an enforced change.

These saves proved crucial as the home team again began to dominate and exploit the space created by the dismissal of one of the Timperley players. A move involving Cutter, Adair and Mazhar ended with Mazhar collecting his second goal and the Booth's Man-of-the-Match award.

Ben Rhydding lost their last final league game of the season and are now left to sweat on other results to see if they will avoid relegation for a second successive season.

Trailing 1-0 at the interval, a spirited second half display probably deserved the home side a draw but having drawn level, they fell behind once again 15 minutes from time. Hopefully Ben Rhydding's points tally will prove just enough in what has been a difficult but most enjoyable season. Booth's Man-of- the-Match was Guy Keating.

Ben Rhydding Badgers 11 Bradford Vs 0

A depleted Bradford side proved no match for a skilful Ben Rhydding team in this one sided affair. Grummitt, Dunsmore and Roughton all grabbed hat tricks and the margin of victory should have been even greater - several chances being wasted.

Despite a poor contest Ben Rhydding strengthened their promotion bid from Yorkshire Nine. John Roughton led the charge for the home side with strong surges from the back, showing the forwards the art of scoring as did Peter Grummitt from midfield. Roughton was Booths man
