Fuming residents are demanding urgent action from Bradford Council to remove a huge pile of rubbish from two gardens.

The three-foot high rubble, which neighbours in Roundwood Avenue, Ravenscliffe, say resembles Odsal Tip, has been piling up for more than two years.

Residents say they are sick of seeing the eyesore which includes, old tyres, syringes, a carry cot, wooden fencing and metal.

Furious pensioner Elizabeth Firth, whose garden contains most of the debris, said she moved into the council-owned property last November and demanded the removal of the junk left by a previous tenant but the Council refused to move it.

"I was told that I must clear up the mess by myself - even though it was here before I moved in," she said.

"Who knows what is under there - it is a health hazard."

Another resident Caroline Folkard said she has complained to the Council about the eyesore when she moved into the area last October but her plea has fallen on deaf ears.

The rubbish pile has now broken a fence and spread into her garden.

Mrs Folkard and her neighbours, Shirley and Stanley Green said the stench of the rubbish increased in the summer.

They were unable to let their children or animals play out in their back garden and had to keep their windows firmly shut.

Mrs Green said the apathy was typical of what was happening in the area.

"Thirty years ago people were fighting to come into this estate, now they are fighting to get out," she said.

A spokesman for the Council's housing department said: "We are talking to contractors to find out how much it would cost to remove the rubbish and are looking for possible ways of paying for the work to be done," he said.
