Bradford City's record signing John McGinlay could be heading for Scotland in a shock move to Dundee United.

Sources in Scotland say the Premier League side are trying to take the 33-year-old on loan to bolster their challenge for a place in next season's UEFA Cup.

Bantams chairman Geoffrey Richmond refused to comment on the speculation surrounding a striker who cost City £625,000 when they bought him from £625,000 record signing from Bolton last November.

McGinlay was given a two-and-a-half year contract by former boss Chris Kamara amid hopes he could propel them back into the play-off positions.

However injury and loss of form has restricted the Scottish international to just 11 starts and six substitute appearances. He has scored three goals.

McGinlay arrived at City keen to re-establish himself in the Scotland squad in time for this summer's World Cup. But his chances have all but disappeared.

When asked if the club would be involved in any transfer dealings before Thursday's deadline day, Richmond said: "The club's policy is never to comment on any speculation.

"There will certainly be no incoming transfers as we have a significant deficit on transfers this season.

"We want to keep the pot dry for the summer. And as regards any out-going transfers, I don't anticipate any permanent deals.

"There could possibly be a loan signing but nothing should be read into any rumours.

"However at this stage in time there are no early signs.

"Usually if there is going to be any movement prior to transfer deadline day the indications are already there.

"At this moment in time there are not any but it doesn't mean to say there won't be."

Meanwhile, City are urging fans who want to attend next weekend's game with Manch-ester City to buy their tickets as soon as possible.

Richmond says the game is set to be a sell-out with the Manchester club having only a handful of tickets still available from their 3,600 allocation yesterday.

These were expected to be sold at today's home game with Sheffield United.

The City chief said: "I am confident the game will be a complete sell out so I would ask our fans to buy their tickets as soon as possible.
