The grieving family of a Bradford man killed in a hit-and-run tragedy have made an impassioned plea to witnesses to help them catch his killer.

Robert Watmuff, 21, of Wilsden, was killed and his friend Daniel Claughton, 18, of Thackley, was injured when they were struck by a car near Bingley early on Saturday.

Robert's aunt Julie Fickling, 37, of Wellington Road, Wilsden, said: "This is an absolute tragedy and I just hope to God they get whoever has done this.

"The whole family has been destroyed; we're absolutely devastated. How can someone drive away and leave two boys on the road for dead? Whoever has done this has no conscience."

After turning down a lift home in a taxi from a friend, Robert and Daniel were walking home when they were struck by a car about 200 yards before a turn to Beckfoot. They were discovered at the side of the road by a police patrol.

"I just wish they'd got in that taxi," said Mrs Fickling. "Things would have been so much different."

Mrs Fickling said Robert's parents, John and Brenda Watmuff, and his sister, 16-year-old Lisa, had been devastated by the event.

She said: "It's ruined their lives; they've come to a complete standstill. They found a card and a present in Robert's room which he'd bought for his mum as a Mother's Day present."

Robert's dad, John, is well known in the village as a TV repair man. His mum, Brenda, is registered disabled and suffers from spondylolysis, a bone deficiency in the spine.

Robert was a pupil at Wilsden Parkside and Bingley Grammar Schools. He worked in a pet shop in John Street Market and then as a delivery driver at GDB clothing manufacturers in Girlington.
