Classic-CAR owners have started polishing their motors in preparation for a fundraising rally this summer.

Classy chassis owned by enthusiasts from across the region will be joining together for the 'Wolds Run' on August 1. The 130-mile rally has been organised as a fundraising event for Oxenhope's Manorlands and Holme Hall hospices.

Ray Kitson, one of the driving forces behind the project, has enlisted the help of friends in the Airedale and Pennine motor car club, to plan the event.

He says: "As owners of classic cars we like to show them off, so we will hopefully be stopping off along the way to let the public have a look."

The trip will start on the saturday at Holme Hall, on Spalding Moor, and drivers will take in the Eastern side of the Yorkshire Wolds before returning to Holme Hall the following day.

Mr Kitson is the proud owner of a 25-year-old MGB, which has rekindled his love affair with the famous British marque. He explains: "My all time favourite car was an MGB and I was lucky enough to own one in 1973, but I had to get rid of it because I started a family. Now that the family have grown up the MGB can come back, and I enjoy taking it out for a spin at the weekend."

Mr Kitson acquired his present MGB three years ago, and he is keen to trace the history of the car back through its nine previous owners. The car still has its original license plate - YWU500L. Anyone with any knowledge of the classic car can contact Mr Kitson on 275519.

The rally is open to anyone with a pre 1980 classic car and admission is £10. For details ring Airedale and Pennine motor club c/o the Rock and Heifer Inn, Rock Lane, Thornton.
