A row over a young couple's bargain Balkan holiday has still not been settled.

Emma Bailey and her boyfriend James McIntyre paid £20 each for the holiday, but were told it had been cancelled - even though they had paid for it and got a booking receipt.

Emma, 20, of Cross Hills, a trainee accountant and James, of Silsden, a student in Leeds, went to Thomas Cook travel agents in Keighley's Airedale Centre. They were offered a Balkan Holiday for the three-star Hotel Sever/Yug at the Sunny Beach resort in Bulgaria, on the coast of the Black Sea. The couple paid for the holiday there and then - a total cost of £107.40 which included £33.70 each for travel insurance. They received their written confirmation.

However, the couple were told the following Wednesday their booking had been cancelled and they were given a full refund.

Last Tuesday Emma received a letter from Balkan Holidays claiming she was informed at the time of booking that the price was clearly an error. The letter also claims that when the holiday was booked she was fully aware that she would have to pay the full amount once the invoice arrived at Thomas Cook. It goes on to say that at no time did Emma receive a Balkan Holiday invoice.

Emma disputes all the claims made in the letter and has written back to Balkan Holidays. She says she intends to continue the fight until she has a satisfactory explanation.

A spokesman for Balkan Holidays says that investigations are continuing and that, hopefully, a satisfactory solution can be found.

a spokesman for Thomas Cook claims: "Miss Bailey was made aware at the time of booking this was an error. The booking was taken to reserve seats on the flight and that clarification of the correct price would be sought from Balkan Holidays. There was no attempt to mislead. There is no way such a holiday could be at £20."
