A campaign has been launched against plans for 31 homes in the tourist vilage of Haworth.

Residents of Mytholmes are formally objecting to plans for the homes in Haworth following a meeting this week to discuss tactics.

People living in North View Terrace, Baden Street, Clay Brow and Alma Street are opposing proposals by Navy Park Ltd, of Huddersfield, for a steep 2.5 acre site alongside Springfield Road.

They believe approval by Keighley planning sub-committee for the 28 detached and three low-cost homes would mean over-development of the site. The land is part of a larger area allocated for housing under Bradford council's controversial Unitary Development Plan.

Residents are also concerned that drawings submitted to planners have sited one of the proposed properties in the garden of a house in North View Terrace.

But their chief worry is about road safety. Navy Park wants to use narrow, unadopted Springhead Road as access but residents fear conflict between cars and heavy lorries travelling to Springhead Mill.

They are also concerned about increased traffic in Victoria Avenue, where there has been a fatal accident, and at its junction with Springhead Road.

Other concerns include the ability of Haworth's education and sewerage systems to cope with more housing and the effect on wildlife.

lTwo other applications for housing in Haworth are in the planning pipeline. Haworth Scouring wants to vacate its site and build 40 new homes in Lees Lane, and there are proposals for 20 more off Ivy Bank Lane.
