Mother-of-two Lianne Berry took drastic action during a housing row with Bradford Council - she superglued herself to a table in a council office.

She became frustrated over Wyke Neighbourhood Housing Office's handling of her bid to be re-housed so she smeared glue on a table - and sat on it. She also glued her feet to the carpet.

Mrs Berry, 35, of Wyke, was freed after two hours and declared: "I just had to come and do something as everytime I am in here they try to fob me off."

Now Bradford Council has pledged to re-house her as soon as possible.

Unemployed Mrs Berry said that for the past two years she had been living apart from her two children, Michael and David, and was staying with a friend in Wyke.

The children now stay with a relative and their father, much to Mrs Berry's heartache. She said she was offered a house in Chain Street, Bradford, but refused it as it was unsuitable.

She added: "I am a grown woman and I have to stay at a friend's house. And then I hear other people are getting homes before me.

"Before all this I had a nice home, all anyone could want. Now all my goods are in storage and my boys are not even living with me."

Mrs Berry freed herself at 1.50pm, after being threatened with criminal damage by police. She pulled her soles from the carpet and wriggled out of her trousers, after a friend went home and brought her a pair of jeans.

She said: "I was thinking of chaining myself to the chair at first, but I knew the fire brigade could easily cut me free.''

Bradford Council City Housing officer Geraldine Howley said: "We are doing all we can for her and have assured her that we will rehouse her as soon as something suitable becomes available.

"Unfortunately the two areas where Mrs Berry said she wanted to move to - Woodside and Wyke - are very popular and properties rarely become available.

"Earlier this week we identified a suitable property in Woodside, but it is in need of major modernisation and is not yet available for her to move into. If a suitable property becomes available before this then she will be considered in line with our allocations policy.''
