Settle had one of those afternoons which hopefully for them will be a rare occurrence this season.

Having won the toss they batted and their innings once again revolved around their exciting pro Bhave. Dave Morrell and Mark Verden both went cheaply, leaving Settle pondering on 21-2 after six overs.

Tim Green joined Bhave and they endeavoured to restore the situation, moving the score on to 70 before Green, 16, was dismissed halfway through the 45 overs. Bhave received further support from Martin Morris, 11, David Worthington, with a quickfire 15, and finally from new recruit Tom Rees.

However it was Bhave who delighted the home supporters with another innings that came right out of the top drawer, the final 50 runs of his 111 not out coming off just 37 balls, and Settle finished on 177-5.

The Padiham bowling figures were S Gee 14-3-42-2, J Hartley 9-1-29-1, S Rashid 8-0-36-1, N Mehmood 12-1-46-1 and pro Mark Harvey 2-0-15-0.

Padiham openers P Tripathi and Harvey soon made their intentions clear, setting about the Settle bowling attack with controlled ferocity.

The 50 came up in just eight overs and despite ringing the changes with the bowlers Settle could find no way to stem the flow of runs. Both batsmen played shots all around the wicket and it came as no surprise when Tripathi became the second player in the game to reach a century.

By this time the visitors were cruising and they reached their winning 180-0 in just 28.3 overs.

Tripathi finished on 110 not out and his century came in just 88 balls.

The Settle bowling figures were Morrell 7-1-33-0, Bhave 11-0-57-0, Adam Gowland 2.3-0-19-0, Eddie Day 3-0-26-0 and Morris 5-0-35-0.

This was another disappointing result for Settle but at least their supporters are enjoying watching a quality of batting from Bhave which arguably has not been seen on a consistent basis before at Marshfield.

In their Lawrenson Cup match Rolls-Royce scored 82-9 in reply to Salesbury 2nds' 80, Melvyn Parker taking five wickets for just eight runs and wicket-keeper Malcolm Whalley having five victims for the winners and K Phillips taking 5-28 for Salesbury.
