A Bradford firm is helping large and small companies keep up-to-date with European safety laws.

Safety Systems Technology, based in Northgate, Baildon, has come up with specialist solutions to allow UK firms help employees stay safe at work.

The company was set up to meet the needs of firms after the European Union's European Machinery Directive came into effect on January 1, 1995.

The Directive forces machinery manufacturers to build in a number of safety devices for when their equipment is used in factories.

It also means that companies throughout the EU must introduce safety measures to cut down accidents.

Safety Systems Technology has a range of mats, machine guards, light curtains and switches which can be used on machinery and plant. They also offer a full risk assessment and safety seminar service to help companies work out what they need to do to make their working environment safer.

The firm has been involved in projects at top companies such as Rolls Royce, Scottish Courage Breweries, Ford and also at Heathrow Airport.

The company's founder Roger Scott said today he previously worked for a German manufacturer of safety equipment which he left to set up his own firm.

He explained: "Originally there was just me, but in time I have added three more specialists to the team and in the next two to three years we will be looking at a turnover of about £1 million."

The firm has also just come up with a video door entry system for businesses and householders which is currently on trial with West Yorkshire Police at its Eccleshill Division in Bradford.

He added: "We have been operating for three years and in that time we have developed a complete machine safety package for companies.

"We can take a look at what is needed to make a factory or a firm safer and offer customers the most cost-effective solution from our range of products."
