Out-of-work residents on three Bradford estates are being urged to take part in a pioneering mobile recruitment drive which could lead to a job on the spot.

The Find and Seek initiative is the brainchild of Royds Community Association and aims to increase employment and training opportunities for people living on the Buttershaw, Delph Hill and Woodside estates.

The scheme, which gets its official launch tomorrow, will allow residents to get advice on whole range of issues including training, jobsearch, business start-ups, childcare and further education. Royds staff, accompanied by workers from local support agencies, will be touring the estates in the association's exhibition bus - nicknamed Thunder-bird 2.

They will be joined be local employers who will arrange interviews with residents for vacancies, some of which will take place there and then.

Mike Oller, co-owner of the soon-to-be -opened sports-theme restaurant, The Main Event, is looking to recruit local residents for more than 20 vacancies.

He will set up office in the mobile unit and interview throughout the day.

"I've benefited from a Royds Business Development Grant and now I want to recruit local residents.

"We've got a ready source of good employees just waiting to be given the right opportunities," he said.

Tomorrow's launch day - which kicks off on the Woodside estate at 10am and runs until 4pm - includes an appearance by Bradford Bulls mascot Bullman, plus music, balloons and a free prize draw.

Peter Eccles, chairman of the Royds Community Association, said: "This programme allows Royds to provide employment, training and business start-up support where it is needed most - directly within our community.

"I urge people to seek out the bus and take advantage of this superb scheme."
