The new head of Bradford Management Centre aims to boost its international reputation as well as do more for firms in the district.

Professor Arthur Francis, 53, is head of the Department of Management Studies at Glasgow University and will shortly be moving to the director's office at the Emm Lane Heaton centre.

He takes over from former Bradford Grammar School boy Professor David Weir who also left Glasgow University to become the management centre's head in 1989. Professor Francis trained as an engineer and moved into social science studies straight away - turning down job offers from Ford and ICI.

Before his time at Glasgow, he was head of the business policy and marketing group at the Imperial College Management School.
