Old rivals will come together for a walk along the Leeds-Liverpool canal in aid of cancer research.

The Walk of the Roses between Yorkshire and Lancashire is being held to mark the 75th anniversary of the Cancer Research Campaign charity.

The walks will kick-off on Sunday September 6 - one starting in Skipton and the other in the village of Foulridge in Lancashire.

CRC area fundraiser Anna Kowalczyk said the walks would both conclude with light refreshments and drinks aboard the Pennine Boat Dalesman in the canal wharf in Coach Street, Skipton.

The Yorkshire leg is from Skipton out to Gargrave and back - a trip of ten miles. It starts at 10am at Skipton canal wharf and follows the river Aire. The Lancashire walk - 14 miles - starts at 10am from the canal wharf at Foulridge taking walkers via Barnoldswick and Gargrave to Skipton.

The walks cost £5 and all those taking part will receive a commemorative T-shirt. To register and for sponsor forms people must telephone Anna Kowalczyk on 01937 588855.

The CRC is Britain's leading cancer charity and European leader in anti-cancer drug development and invests £50 million a year in research projects.
