Bronte country is being stamped on the global tourist trail thanks to a group set up to promote the district.

Bronte Country Tourism, based in Keighley, has helped an Australian film crew shoot footage for a programme which will be seen by at least 140 million people worldwide.

Haworth and the surrounding area will feature on Australia's Getaway programme - the country's version of ITV's Wish You Were Here.

BCT manager Carolyn Spencer said the crew focused on the Bronte Parsonage Museum in Haworth, the village's Main Street and also filmed at Top Withens.

She was asked to help with filming by the tourist organisation England's North Country, which specialises in promoting the region abroad.

"They wanted to see the Bronte Parsonage Museum, Haworth Main Street, shops and to sample the cuisine. That's why we chose Weaver's restaurant in Haworth so they could try the Yorkshire puddings," said Carolyn.

She said it was very pleasing that programme makers half way round the world were interested in featuring the area.

Seven million people in Australia will see the programme on the Network 9 channel as well as another 140 million worldwide when it is broadcast on satellite and cable television in the autumn.

"It is very promising and shows that our work in promoting the area is paying off," she said.

"It will result in more valuable exposure for Bronte country, not only in Australia but also worldwide."

Bradford Council's countryside officer David Parsons provided transport to enable the television crew to get to Top Withens, said to be the location of Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights.
