IF you can remember a song from the 1980s about pushing pineapples, shaking trees and grinding coffee - shame on you!

Ilkley's Ardenlea Marie Curie Centre wants Gazette readers to support National Agadoo Day on Saturday, August 15.

The 1980s song we all love to hate is being re-released by cult band Black Lace. The group would like everyone to do their bit for Marie Curie Cancer Care by organising a host of Agadoo-themed fundraising events.

Bad shirt competitions, beach party nights and sponsored renditions of the song are just a few ideas - but many people may prefer to hold an Agadon't evening where partygoers can pay to stop the single being played.

Brenda Doyle, Ardenlea fundraiser, said: "An Agadoo Day event could bring some fun to a pretty grim summer and whether you're young or just young at heart everyone can take part."

"Have a funky time with your colleagues at work or friends in your pub or club and raise money for cancer patients and their families at the Ardenlea Marie Curie Centre," said Brenda.

Returning from a holiday in foreign parts (possibly a place where Agadoo is played constantly) what can you do with all that small change?

Marie Curie Cancer Care can turn your unwanted dimes and nickels, francs and lira into pounds and pence to support the charity.

Whatever the foreign currency or pre decimal UK coinage (including half pence) will be accepted by Marie Curie.

"We all return from holidays or business trips abroad with at least a handful of unusable coins or small denomination notes. Put them to good use and support Ardenlea," said Brenda.
