Paul Jewell believes his Bradford City have been handed a 'smashing draw' after being handed a West Yorkshire derby clash with Halifax Town in the second round of the Worthington Cup.

The clash will be the two clubs first competitive meeting in 16 years and is guaranteed to attract a healthy crowd to both ties.

Paul Jewell's side beat the Shaymen 2-1 in a pre-season friendly earlier this month but the game is sure to be a tough test with Town riding high in the Third Division.

The City boss said: "It is a smashing draw for both clubs. The supporters do not have to travel too far and it gives us a fair chance of getting through to the third round.

"Having said that Halifax are on top form at the moment and Keiran O'Regan has done a great job. We have not seen them in the league this year but we will be watching them. Keiran gets them to pass the ball about. They obviously have their dangerous players but having said that, so do we."

City will have to be on their guard against scoring ace Geoff Horsfield who has followed up his 34 goals in the Conference last season with four in Town's first three league games.

The first leg will take place at The Shay during the week beginning September 14 with the return coming at Valley Parade the following week.

Meanwhile, City will be without both Edinho and John McGinlay when they travel to Crewe Alexandra tomorrow night.

The pair were both withdrawn with slight injuries during the reserve side's 4-0 defeat against Newcastle United on Tuesday night but the City boss insists that they won't be out for too long.

Jewell said: "Edinho picked up a slight hamstring strain while John's calf tightened in the second half. Both should not be out for too long but will be missing tomorrow."
