Police are investigating after a finance worker said he suffered serious leg injuries when attacked by a dog.

Michael Senejko, of Bradford, wants action taken against the Alsatian's owner following the incident when he was collecting cash from a house in Leeds.

Mr Senejko, a self-employed collector who works for finance companies, suffered a three inch long and half inch deep gash on his right leg.

He said he has two small punctures in the back of his leg where the animal bit him.

"I feel something has to be done as this dog could strike again and it could be a child that gets hurt or seriously maimed," he said.

The incident happened when he visited a housing estate in Bramley. He claims a man came to the door with the dog. It was wearing a choker around its neck but it came loose and the dog attacked him.

"I was rolling around the ground trying to get the dog off me, but it ripped into my calf. Then it suddenly let go and went back into the house," he said.

He struggled to his car and drove to hospital.

Mr Senejko, 46, who has worked as a collector for six months, said staff at the BRI said he could be off work for up to six weeks.

"I am not allowed to put pressure on the leg. I have to sit down and keep it raised. When you are self employed it is not a good position to be in," he said.

He attends the Bradford hospital each day to change the dressing.

A police spokesman confirmed officers were looking into the incident.

"We will need to speak with Mr Senejko again. Then we will interview the dog owner. Legal action against the owner can be taken if the dog was out of control or there have been similar incidents," he said.
