A nurse struck off seven years ago has lost a bid to be reinstated.

Lillian Deakin was removed from the register when she was found guilty of six misconduct charges while employed as an enrolled nurse at Norwood House nursing home in Keighley. The incidents - which happened in 1990 - related to administering an enema without warning while a patient was asleep, and without warming it to body temperature.

On one occasion she administered an enema without lubricating the nozzle and kicked the patient when he lashed out.

On Wednesday Mrs Deakin, 42, appeared before the professional conduct committee of the UK Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting to seek reinstatement.

The committee rejected the application. chairman Alison Norman said she hoped in any further application Mrs Deakin would be able to demonstrate an ability to work in health care. She added: "This would enable her to experience the atmosphere of current nursing which might in turn enable her to provide evidence that she could handle the explicit problems facing nurses today."
