Bradford Park Avenue's much sought-after keeper Patrick Kenny has signed for First Division Bury in a move that could provide a lifeline for Trevor Storton's cash-strap-ped side.

Kenny, who has twice had trials at Birmingham City, put pen to paper at Gigg Lane yesterday after the clubs agreed a fee of about £10,000.

It represents the biggest sale for Avenue since Kevin Hector's £40,000 move to Derby County in 1966.

The 20-year-old will be second choice for the Shakers behind the current No 1, Irish international Dean Kiely.

Avenue boss Storton said: "I'm obviously sad to lose Patrick, but I am also delighted that he's getting his chance.

"He's worked very hard for this and can go even higher. He's got a fantastic brain, he's very strong on reading situations and he's got a superb attitude. My big disappointment is that I think he's worth a lot more."

The deal is expected to include a sell-on clause which could net the club a windfall should Bury ever transfer him.
